On October 11, Kazakhstan’s Security Council convened with President Tokayev, to address the nation’s food security concerns, The Astana Times reported.
The meeting focused on the country’s efforts to meet domestic food needs, where the President emphasized that public access to affordable and quality food is of the highest priority calling for transparency in pricing during all phases of food production and distribution. These efforts aim to improve access to affordable food supplies for all citizens.
The meeting acknowledged that physical access to food is connected to several factors such as increased labor productivity, modernization of agriculture, and the development of robust domestic agrarian science.
To further enhance the country’s crop cultivation several key areas were identified such as modernizing the fleet of agricultural machinery, and the establishment of a domestic seed fund supporting self-sufficient crop cultivation.
Moreover, President Tokayev emphasized the importance of government support such as subsidies to contribute to higher productivity within the agro-industrial complex, stressing the need to consider regional specifics like sowing area sizes and crop selection.
In addition, Tokayev further underscored the importance of government support to farmers and food-related businesses during economic change. Also addressed during the meeting were concerns about rural job creation and the improvement of pest and disease control procedures.
Furthermore, the President instructed law enforcement representatives to continue combating corruption in distributing subsidies and agricultural lands, reflecting a commitment to promoting transparency and fairness in food security initiatives.
