Saudi ministry to launch the first annual Global Labor Market Conference

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the launch of the first Global Labor Market Conference (GLMC) to be held on December 13-14, 2023. This crucial event aims to ensure the sustainability of the labor market for stakeholders around the world in today’s evolving environment.

His Excellency Eng. Ahmad bin Suleiman Al Rajhi, the esteemed Minister of Human Resources and Social Development of the Government of Saudi Arabia, will lead the conference and speak about Saudi Arabia’s visionary steps in shaping global labor markets. He will be joined by H.E. Abdullah bin Nasser Abu Tanin, Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, who will speak on the complex policy mechanisms shaping the Kingdom’s labor landscape.

Prominent representatives of international organizations will also add to this list of distinguished speakers who will be attending GLMC. Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will offer a global economic perspective on labor market dynamics.

Dr. Guy Ryder, Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), will make an invaluable contribution to the development of inclusive and sustainable labor practices globally, further strengthening his commitment with the recent announcement of a strategic partnership between the GLMC and the ILO.

The partnership, announced today, aims to strengthen joint efforts to advance global labor practices and foster inclusive economic growth. Mr. Achim Steiner, Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), will participate and provide expertise to promote collaborative efforts and sustainable development of labor markets around the world.

In addition, moderators representing transnational experience and journalistic acumen will oversee the discussion. Dr. Johannes Kettle, Senior Economist for the World Bank Group’s Global Social Protection and Labor Practice from the United States, will lead a discussion covering economic aspects and global policy implications. Ms. Charlotte Kahn, a renowned print and broadcast journalist from the UK, will provide subtle and comprehensive coverage, enriching the discussion with her journalistic insights.

The conference with its forward-looking agenda aims to address multifaceted challenges reflecting the Ministry’s vision to promote inclusiveness and innovation in labor markets globally. GLMC will focus on eight main tracks:
