Turkmenistan reduces permit costs in multimodal transit shipments

Türkmen Logistika Assosiasiýasy (Turkmen Association of Logistics) reported on its official website last week that Turkmenistan has reduced the cost of permits for carriers of transit cargo in multimodal transport.

According to the information, the state enterprise Türkemenulaggözegçilik (Turkmen Transport Control) has announced that discounts will apply to transit goods arriving by sea or rail at Turkmenistan’s freight yard or first railway station.

Following the changes, the cost of registration of the international transport consignment note (CMP) for vehicles transporting transit cargo from the railway station or cargo yard of Turkmenistan to other countries is 100 manat.

Additionally, the owners of trucks now have to pay 100 manats for the permit to transport cargo from third countries to Turkmenistan and loading cargo on the vehicle in Turkmenistan.

In an effort to remove potential barriers to obtaining permits for road transport to third countries, all of these measures will enable carriers to use Turkmenistan’s railway terminals and freight yards to transship cargo from one mode of transport to another.

The authorities have previously this month reduced from $250 to $100 the fees for foreign vehicles arriving at Turkmenistan’s railway stations or freight yards to unload transit cargo.

At the same time, tariffs were also reduced for road vehicle transportation on the Turkmenbashi – Baku (Alyat) – Turkmenbashi route, the Marine Merchant Fleet Closed Joint Stock Company of Turkmenistan announced.

The company, which has two ferries in its fleet, noted that by reducing the tariffs for road vehicle transportation, it aims to provide its clients with convenient conditions for the transportation of the vehicles.

The Marine Merchant Fleet, which transported about 22 thousand vehicles last year, decreased the price of the one-way carriage to $1,000 and the round-trip fare to $1,600.

Maritime transportation is one of the key parts of multimodal transport as well as the most important transport sector in modern international trade.
