UK sends top-notch medical team to Türkiye to offer essential emergency care

To aid in the earthquake emergency response, the UK government has dispatched a medical team to Türkiye with surgical expertise and supplies. In close proximity to a hospital that was severely damaged by the earthquake, the team has established a medical treatment facility in eastern Türkiye, a press release says.

The crew arrived and began treating patients the following day (Monday 13 February). While the clinic is providing emergency medical care, the construction team will begin constructing the larger field hospital, which will have a high dependency unit, a 24/7 operating room, and beds for inpatient care.

The UK team, which consists of about 110 emergency medical workers from the MoD and the medical charity UK-Med, will collaborate with Turkish healthcare professionals in Turkoglu to deliver critical, life-saving care.

The medical staff will attend to both those with serious wounds and those experiencing the aftershocks of the earthquake.

Additionally, the MoD has dispatched a C130 Hercules aircraft along with a critical care air support team (CCAST) to assist in delivering crucial medical care and transporting patients inside of Türkiye.

The UK medical team has been in the nation since February 7 in order to evaluate the needs there and work with Turkish authorities. The Emergency Medical Team (EMT), provided by UK-Med, is funded by the UK government and is on call to offer prompt, well-coordinated medical aid in the early aftermath of humanitarian catastrophes.

The emergency medical help is a component of the humanitarian aid package for Türkiye and Syria that the UK government announced on February 8 in the wake of the terrible earthquakes.
