Samruk-Kazyna and KazMunayGas have inked agreements with French energy firm TotalEnergies to create a 1GW wind farm in Kazakhstan, Power Technology reports.
The Mirny project, which the company’s subsidiary, Total Eren, will build, is said to be the biggest wind farm ever developed in Kazakhstan. A 600MWh battery storage system will be linked with 200 wind turbines as part of the Mirny project.
The project will be able to supply more than a million people in the nation with all of their energy needs once it is up and running. Its creation is a result of an intergovernmental agreement between Kazakhstan and France on the implementation of cooperation in the sphere of solving climate catastrophe.
According to TotalEnergies, the arrangement has improved its position in Kazakhstan’s market for renewable energy.
Additionally, the business sold its Total E&P Dunga subsidiary to Oriental Sunrise, a Kazakh firm, for $330 million. The agreement is contingent on both the partners waiving their preemption rights and approval from Kazakhstani authorities.
A joint venture between TotalEnergies and Casa dos Ventos (CDV) was formed in October of this year to design, construct, and manage a 12GW renewable portfolio in Brazil.
The portfolio includes 1GW of onshore wind power that is currently under development and 700MW of onshore wind capacity that is currently operating.
In the JV, CDV will own a 66% ownership position, while TotalEnergies will hold the remaining 34%.
