Partnership with GSTC shows Moldovan tourism’s commitment to sustainability

The recent partnership agreement that the Moldovan Ministry of Culture – as the government authority coordinating the tourism sector – signed with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) is an important step forward in Moldova’s commitment to sustainable tourism.

This agreement, which establishes a cooperation framework for developing a sustainable tourism industry in Moldova, will ensure that the country’s tourism sector is aligned with the industry’s highest global standards for sustainable tourism by promoting the implementation of GSTC’s globally recognized sustainability standards.

GSTC’s CEO Randy Durband believes that the Moldovan tourism industry will benefit from their expertise and assistance in its efforts to achieve an appropriate balance in the development of the tourism sector and to guarantee its long-term sustainability.

Moldova’s National Inbound and Domestic Tourism Association (ANTRIM) which represents the private sector in tourism has recently become a member of GSTC as a further sign of Moldova’s commitment to becoming a sustainable destination.

The focus of Chisinau’s tourism strategy has been to conserve Moldova’s authentic culture and provide a strong foundation in sustainability by developing tourism in rural communities which the small Eastern Europe republic located between Romania and Ukraine is abundant with, offering it a significant potential to develop as a sustainable tourism destination.

Moldova’s unique cultural, culinary, wine, and adventure travel potential has recently been highlighted by several investments and developments in the country’s wine and rural tourism that have resulted in a range of new tourism products.

Moldova’s Minister of Culture, Sergiu Prodan, emphasized that the pandemic and the war in the region have had a dramatic impact on Moldova as an emerging tourism destination, noting the importance of the commitment to protect and enhance the environment and cultural heritage while maximizing social and economic benefits for the local communities.

Prodan underscored in his statement that everyone can now explore Moldova virtually on 360.moldova.travel platform.
