China counters U.S. sanctions on Chinese firms for alleged Russia ties

In a robust rebuttal to the recent trade curbs imposed by the Biden administration, China’s commerce ministry vehemently opposed the United States move to sanction Chinese enterprises over purported Russia-related involvements.

In a statement issued on Monday via its official website, the ministry vowed to take requisite measures to safeguard the lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies targeted by these sanctions, Al Arabiya reported.

Last Friday, the Biden administration’s announcement outlined new trade restrictions affecting 93 entities spanning Russia, China, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, India, and South Korea. These measures were purportedly enacted due to allegations of support provided by these entities to Russia’s ongoing military operations in Ukraine.

China’s forceful response underscores escalating tensions between the two global economic powerhouses against the backdrop of unfolding geopolitical dynamics in Eastern Europe. The trade restrictions, extending beyond Russian borders to include Chinese businesses, have elicited a sharp rebuke from Beijing, amplifying existing strains in Sino-American relations.

As the situation evolves, China remains steadfast in its opposition to what it deems unjust punitive actions by the United States. The ministry’s statement reflects a resolve to shield Chinese enterprises from what it perceives as unwarranted repercussions arising from their alleged involvement in Russia-related activities.
