WHO trained 6000 medical professionals to help in Ukraine

In the midst of the fighting, the WHO has trained more than 6000 medical professionals in Ukraine in mass casualty management and trauma care, a report states.

The trainings, which required specialists to test and build particular strategies and procedures on how to appropriately respond to needs within the ongoing battle, were attended by healthcare professionals from over 40 hospitals.

According to Dr. Jarno Habicht, WHO Representative in Ukraine, one of the organization’s main goals is to increase the capacity of healthcare professionals and specialists to address a variety of health requirements in accordance with international best practices. Given the emergency scenario we are in, mass casualty and trauma care training for healthcare professionals is crucial, and we appreciate the help of our domestic and international partners.

Tens of thousands of healthcare professionals have also received training from WHO on gender-based violence, mental health and psychosocial support, chemical preparedness, and laboratory diagnostics.

In response to demands and in conjunction with domestic and international partners, WHO is also distributing vital medical supplies around the nation in addition to trainings.

More than 2000 metric tonnes of medical equipment, including trauma kits, ambulances, power generators, and medications for chronic and infectious diseases, have been purchased by WHO since 24 February 2022.
