WHO report on Ukraine crisis

In order to coordinate the response in the recently retaken regions in the eastern Donetsk, Kharkiv, and southern Kherson oblasts, Health Cluster Partners continue to engage closely with health authorities. At least 35 Partner groups had 56 locations in the regions covered by activities as of the end of November.

The WHO started the initiative “Fast access to auxiliary technologies for internally displaced individuals in Ukraine” in collaboration with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health (MoH). Staff training and assistive technology tools will be provided to healthcare facilities in the Zaporizhzhya, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv oblasts to support displaced persons along the displacement pathway. Ten categories of high-priority assistive goods, such as mobility and self-care items, have been identified for use by displaced and refugee individuals.

A three-day meeting was held by WHO with participation from the MoH, the Ukrainian Public Health Centre (UPHC), and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to examine important future prospects for Ukraine’s public health system.

Since February 24, 2022, there have been frequent clashes in Ukraine. Millions of people are now in terrible need as a result of this serious humanitarian disaster. This includes individuals who have fled to other nations, those who have been uprooted within Ukraine, as well as those who live in areas that are not under the jurisdiction of the government or in recently retaken areas.

Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has reported a total of 17 023 civilian casualties, of which 6655 have been fatalities and 10 368 have been injuries.

OHCHR reported 688 civilian casualties in Ukraine for the month of November, of which 162 were fatalities and 526 were injuries.

According to the global Surveillance System for Incidents on Health Care’s standard operating procedures, the WHO has confirmed 715 reported attacks between 24 February and 30 November. These have led to 129 documented injuries and 100 recorded deaths of patients and members of the medical community.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reported 7.9 million Ukrainian refugees in Europe as of November 29. In Europe, 4.8 million people have enrolled for temporary protection or other state protection programs.

15.8 million border crossings into Ukraine and 8.1 million border crossings out of Ukraine were counted as cross-border movements. These later statistics represent cross-border movements rather than specific people.
