Moldova December apple exports to exceed November volumes

The ultimate volume of apple exports in December, according to dealers in Moldova, will likely be between 10,000 and 12,000 tons.

This indicates that it will be much lower than December apple exports last year and almost comparable to exports in December 2020 (almost 21,000 tons).

According to EastFruit, the country shipped roughly 7,000 tons of apples last month, which is the smallest amount for November exports in the previous five years.

Operators of the nearby fruit market had not anticipated active apple shipments as of early December. Exports, however, surprisingly increased in the second part of the month. It was influenced in part by the introduction of the Russian market to fifty agricultural and commercial businesses from Moldova as well as a little uptick in Moldovan apple shipments to Romania before the holidays. Wholesale demand prices are moderate in both situations.

Some significant agricultural producers assert that for shipments to the Romanian market, traders purchase Idared, which they describe as being of ordinary quality, but at a price that is 1.5 times less expensive than the going rate on the local market, or at 4-4.5 MDL/kg ($0.21-0.23/kg).

However, in order to pay off their debts and pay their employees’ paychecks before the holidays, farmers are compelled to agree to these terms.
