The president of Kazakhstan attended the launch of construction activities on a factory that will begin producing Chinese cars under license in the latter half of 2024.
According to a news statement from the president’s office, the plant in Almaty, the commercial center, would build models created by the Chinese automakers Changan, Chery, and Haval.
When Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Kazakhstan in September, Tokayev stated he had discussions with him during that visit that resulted in the factory.
Astana Motors, a significant automobile dealer with headquarters in Kazakhstan and current retail operations in China, Europe, Japan, and South Korea, will carry out the 100 billion tenge ($216 million) project.
The factory, which is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2024, is designed to produce more than 90,000 cars annually.
According to Tokayev’s office, the plant will employ more than 2,000 workers.
The vehicle industry in Kazakhstan is thriving. In terms of growth, Kazakhstan ranked third in the world with a 25% year-over-year rise in car manufacturing from January to August.
Only Indonesian and Malaysian automakers saw faster growth.
