Arctic scientific stations detect smoke from Yakutia wildfires

According to a statement on the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute’s Telegram channel, scientists at Arctic stations have detected smoke from wildfires burning in Yakutia and on the Taimyr.
Researchers said that visibility had reduced to 500 meters, the sky was cloudy and they could smell burning. The smoke lingered in the region for more than 20 hours on Sunday, and for nearly three hours on Monday, according to the researchers.
After a while, the wind shifted and the smoke began to dissipate.
On the Bolshevik Island (Severnaya Zemlja), about 700 kilometers north-west of Khastyr, a northern monitoring station has recorded light smoke.
