Report on Ukraine refugee situation in Moldova

A total of 106,546 people received cash assistance, and the Law Center of Advocates has offered legal support to 78,679 refugees. 3,660 persons received psychosocial treatment and psychological first aid from INTERSOS while 2,578 refugees were housed in 67 refugee accomodation centers with assistance from UNHCR, a ReliefWeb press release states.

In order to further enhance refugee inclusion, UNHCR distributed 87 laptops to educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and creative hubs in Balti, Causeni, Chisinau, Edinet, and Soroca between December 20 and 23. Children from Moldova and refugees will have easier access to education thanks to the technological equipment. The Balti State University will receive 10 additional computers the following week. For more information on promoting inclusion and social protection, see page 2.

The UNHCR’s winterization effort is ongoing, and over 110,000 items have already been given (see p. 2 for more details).

In addition to providing winterization supplies, UNHCR gave 200 wheelchairs, hygiene kits, and bed linen sets to the non-profit Society for People with Disabilities on December 2. These items will be distributed to refugees and host communities.

The personnel of the Government’s Green Line, which is overseen by UNHCR, participated in a training on protection against sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) on December 17 thanks to UNHCR and IOM. Participants experienced receiving SEA reports and directing survivors to appropriate resources.

Through Cahul’s Local Refugee Coordination Forum, UNHCR, UNFPA, and IOM collaborated with municipal officials to host a session on referral routes for services like psychosocial support and legal help on December 13. Participants included officials from the police, administration, social assistance programs, civic society, and humanitarian organizations. The meeting’s goal was to create uniform standards and processes for directing people to local support services.
